Port Ludlow Bay has been a destination for northwest boaters long before the homes and the marina were built. The bay is lined with big trees and sunsets over the Olympic Mountains are spectacular, especially early in the boating season when they are still covered with snow. Herons work the shallows, kingfishers patrol the borders, cormorants flock in the trees, and waterfowl are plentiful.

In addition to the main portion of the bay, there is a small particularly pretty and well protected cove behind two islands affectionately referred to as "the Twins". If you are visiting on a boat, you do need to be careful to enter and exit to the north of the Twins because one of them only appears to be an island plus there is a shallow mudflat between them which is dry at low tide.

The Bay has has some good anchoring areas, and it's usually full of boats on major holidays in the summer. Boaters do need to be careful towards the back of the bay because it can get pretty shallow at low tides plus this was an area where rafted logs were stored at one time. Long-time residents talk about watching otters scamper and play across the tops of the log booms during the 1980s.

The Meydenbauer Bay Yacht Club maintains an out station on the south bay side of Port Ludlow Bay that predates most of the residential development in Port Ludlow.
